Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha. After approximately one hour's drive, you'll arrive at Momella Gate, where you'll complete park registration and meet your mountain guide, porters, cook, and armed ranger. The trek starts through lush montane forest, home to giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, baboons, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and an impressive variety of birds. Along the route, enjoy beautiful views of the Momella Lakes and the surrounding wilderness. After several hours of hiking, you'll reach Miriakamba Hut, nestled within the forest. Relax while your cook prepares a delicious dinner before settling in for your first night on the mountain.
After breakfast, continue your ascent through changing landscapes as dense forest gradually gives way to open moorland. The trail climbs along the scenic Elephant Ridge, offering magnificent panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, and the surrounding plains. You'll arrive at Saddle Hut around lunchtime. After some rest, those wishing to improve acclimatization can take an optional afternoon hike to Little Meru (3,820 m), where you'll enjoy spectacular sunset views across the Maasai Steppe. Enjoy dinner before preparing for your early morning summit attempt.
Today is the highlight of your Mount Meru adventure. Your summit climb begins around 1:00–2:00 AM, hiking under the stars with headlamps. The route passes Rhino Point (3,800 m) and Cobra Point (4,350 m) before reaching the narrow summit ridge. As dawn breaks, you'll arrive at Socialist Peak (4,566 m), where you'll witness one of Tanzania's most breathtaking sunrises. Enjoy panoramic views stretching across Mount Kilimanjaro, Arusha National Park, the Meru Crater, and the vast African plains below. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, descend back to Saddle Hut for a hot meal before continuing to Miriakamba Hut for your final night on the mountain.
Following breakfast, descend through the rainforest back to Momella Gate. This final section offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including colobus monkeys, warthogs, buffaloes, and numerous colorful bird species. Upon arrival at the park gate, you'll receive your official Mount Meru Climbing Certificate before saying farewell to your mountain crew. Afterward, your driver will transfer you back to Arusha, where your memorable Mount Meru adventure concludes.
